Feel the Spirit – 12 July 2014

Our Summer concert 2014 at Holy Trinity Church in Blythburgh featured a mix of transcendent sacred and secular music, with J S Bach’s vigorous motet Der Geist Hilft balanced by Brahms’ sublime Geistliches Lied, composed when he was just 23.

Alongside Michael Tippett’s five spirituals from A Child of our Time, the Jays performed arrangements of well-known spirituals by Bob Chilcott and Andrew-Pryce Jackman.

Andrew Leach provided piano accompaniment and injected his soloist energy with Gershwin’s Promenade and the composer’s arrangement of four of his own songs.

The programme also included Moses Hogan’s high-octane version of Elijah Rock.
